

Betty Jean Temple, 84, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 her home. Visitation will be held at Wright & Ferguson on High Street, in Jackson, MS on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 5-7 pm and Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 9:30-11 am and the funeral to follow at 11 am. The graveside service to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park-Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS.
Betty was born April 20, 1928 in Hattiesburg, MS to Annie Kate and Robert H. Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents and step father Claude Jackson, her husband of 47 years Gaddy Temple, and her son Bobby Temple. Betty was a member of Riverside Independent Methodist Church.
She graduated from Starkville High, was active in basketball, track, and was a majorette in the band. She was an avid tennis player, playing into her 70’s. She was a receptionist for the Jackson Chamber of Commerce for 26 years and retired in 1990. She loved to read, knit, and do needlepoint that she shared with friends. She enjoyed her trips to New York and Miami to watch tennis matches. She and her tennis buddies traveled the world playing tennis at beautiful Club Meds.
She is survived by her brother Robert Tucker of Amory, MS, daughter Valerie White of Bowie, TX, daughter Betty Carolyn Temple of Brandon, MS, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren and her faithful Yorkie “Jag” who was by her side 24/7.
Memorials may be made to either Riverside Independent Methodist Church, CARA – Community Animal Rescue and Adoption or the Ronald McDonald House.
Her daughters thank her many friends and neighbors that were so good to her during her illness. She was a wonderful person and will be missed.
