Bobby Stanley "Stan" Merritt Jr.

Bobby Stanley "Stan" Merritt, Jr., 60, of Slidell, Louisiana, died May 31, 2015 at his residence. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Lakewood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Lakewood Funeral Home.

Stan was born September 13, 1954 in Jackson, MS, to Bobbie and Evelyn Merritt.

He graduated in 1974 from Wingfield High School in Jackson, MS. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS graduating in 1978 with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Mississippi Power and Lights as a plant manager in Vicksburg, MS. After 29 years as a mechanical engineer, he retired from Entergy as an electric manager.

Stan enjoyed relic hunting, duck hunting, and watching the Rebels and Saints play football on the weekends. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time on the water and with family. His passion was history. Because of his vast knowledge, he was able to provide great insight to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Merritt; mother, Evelyn Merritt; sister and brother in law, Stacy and Tommy Hester; daughter and son in law, Natalie and Eric Vandersteen; son, Bobby Merritt III; grandchildren, Merritt and Sutton Vandersteen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobbie S. Merritt, Sr.
