Charles Thomas Benson Sr., age 80, passed away on July 26, 2026. Born on April 18, 1946, Charles was a longtime resident of Madison, Mississippi, and will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew him. His life held a steady, quiet significance—one marked by the kind of presence that is not easily replaced, and by a love that will remain close to the hearts of his family.
Charles was preceded in death by his son, Charles Benson Jr; his father, John L Benson Sr; his mother, Katie Jewel Benson; his sister, Patricia Benson; his sister, Shirley Luke; and his brothers, John L Benson Jr (Ann), Benny Lerue Benson (Linda), Rayburn Benson, and Ronald Benson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lina Benson; his daughter, Lora Benson; his granddaughter and grandsons, Courtney Purvis, Nicholas Purvis, and Dallas Benson; and three precious great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Marie Branning and Vickey Chaneyworth with whom he shared a lifetime of stories, laughter and treasured memoires. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Charles was truly beloved and deeply cherished, and his memory will be held with gratitude and care by those who were privileged to share in his life.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, on July 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Lakewood Funeral Home on July 29, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am. Final interment will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.
