
Dr. Charles Mims Edwards, 75, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 20, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street with visitation preceding the service at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Dr. Edwards, a retired psychiatrist, was born March 16, 1936 to the late Dr. Boyd C. and Gussey Smith Edwards. He served two years in the Air Force from 1966-1968 and had a private practice in Jackson from 1968-1977. He worked in Rankin General Hospital, now known as Rankin Medical Center in Adolescent Psychiatry. This was the only program of its type in the state at the time. In March of 1977, Dr. Edwards suffered a massive stroke and was unable to speak until April of 1977. In 1982, he began amateur painting with oil and color pencils. In his later life, Dr. Edwards enjoyed exercising, bowling on the Wii, traveling, and spending time with his daughter on Saturdays.
Dr. Edwards is survived by his sons: Boyd Q. Edwards of Brandon, Andrew O. Edwards of Madison, and Jonas M. Bowen of Hattiesburg; daughter, Lynne Edwards Oliver of Ridgeland; sister, Betsy Watts of Vidor, TX; and grandchildren, Elaina and Lindsey Edwards of Brandon.
