Jackson, MS – Derline Eutelle Burton Atkins, 100, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at home in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on September 23, 1921 in Cleveland, Mississippi to Winfred Knight Burton and Clara Hood Burton. Derline grew up in Webster County, near Eupora, Mississippi, where they moved to before she was the age of 2.
Derline married Raymond “Buddy” Atkins on December 13, 1937. They were married for 50 years before he passed away on January 19, 1988. They started their family in Eupora, Mississippi, where they had two sons, before moving to Memphis, Tennessee. In 1983, Derline and Raymond moved to Jackson, Mississippi to be close to their sons and family.
Family was Derline’s life and she loved each and every one of them. Nothing put a bigger smile on her face than seeing one of her loved ones. She loved big. She will be missed by them. They will continue to treasure Derline’s memory just as she treasured them.
Derline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Atkins; son, Billy Winfred Atkins; brothers, Winfred Lamar Burton and Lloyd M. Burton; and sisters, Etoyle Odean Burton, Oneta Lee Burton, and Katie Lorelle Burton Ross.
She is survived by her son, Bobby Gwin Atkins of Jackson, Mississippi; grandchildren, Michael Atkins (Trish) of Midlothian, Virginia, Randall Atkins of Jackson, Mississippi, Billy Keith Atkins of Miami, Florida, Deborah Atkins of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Sharon Atkins Nadalich (Chris) of Madison, Mississippi; great grandchildren, Michael Atkins, Jr., Shelby Atkins, Brett Nadalich, and Olivia Nadalich; great-great grandchild, Evran Atkins; one sister Annie Florence Burton Pollock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home. A visitation will occur Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 11:00 am. An interment will occur at Lakewood Memorial Park-South, 430 McClure Road, Jackson, Mississippi 39212.
