With his children at his side, Dewey Myers passed from this life on February 7, 2013. Visitation will be February 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Briarwood United Methodist Church with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. and the commitment service at Lakewood Memorial Park immediately thereafter.
Mr. Myers was born in Yazoo County on April 28, 1927, to Hollis Clifton Myers and Alva Dozier Myers. He had lived in Jackson for the last fifty-five years. He married Mildred Juanita Renfroe on February 15, 1947, and together they reared two children in a faith-centered home. Their home was always filled with music, books, and good food, and lessons on Old Testament history.
A devout Christian, Mr. Myers was a lifelong Methodist, having been baptized in the Bentonia Methodist Church. He and Nita were members of the Briarwood United Methodist Church congregation, where each of them served in almost every lay capacity. He lived his favorite scripture, Micah 6:8: He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Mr. Myers retired from his sales job with Lone Star Cement and enjoyed many retirement years visiting with his family, friends and playing golf. For the last three years, he and Nita resided at the Orchard, where he made and maintained many close friendships and cared for Nita as her health declined.
Surviving him are his daughter, Mildred Myers Morris and her husband, Glenn; and his son, William Clifton Myers and his wife, Jerri. He was devoted to his grandchildren, Amy Leigh Morris, David Glenn Morris (and his wife, Minqian), Krista Myers Markham (and her husband, Keith), and William Scott Myers. He leaves seven great-grandchildren, David Oliver Strange, Jordan Madeleine Markham, AnnaCatherine Mary Markham, Joshua Arthur Markham, Emma Grace Markham, Mildred Hannah Barnes Strange, and David Glenn Morris, Jr. Two loving sisters survive, Rita Myers House and Frances Myers Williams Severance. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marjorie Myers Sutton.
Memorials may be made to Briarwood United Methodist Church or Methodist Senior Services, Post Office Box 1567, Tupelo, Mississippi 38802.
