

Edd was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi to the late Ed Smith and Clara Mae Dukes. He graduated from Mendenhall High School in 1952 and Copiah Lincoln Junior College.
Edd married Mary Louise Smith in 1955 and enjoyed a 69-year marriage to his deceased spouse who was always at his side.
Edd worked at the State Times and then had a long career with the Jackson Police Department where he retired as Deputy Chief of Detectives. He later worked with Wackenhut from 1996 until 2007.
Edd and Mary enjoyed camping and travel as well as participating in activities at Westmont Christian Church, Midway Baptist Church, and Pocahontas Baptist Church where he was honored as Deacon Emeritus.
Edd loved fishing in the neighborhood pond and feeding the fish with his grandchildren.
Edd is preceded in death by His parents; wife; brothers, E.C. Smith, Dan Smith, and Elmer Smith; stillborn child, Sherry Lynn Smith; grandson, Rhett Alexander Smith; granddaughter, Britany Hope Russell; and son-in-law, Clifton Romero.
He is survived by son, Edward N. Smith (Donna Sue); daughter, Teresa Lawalin (Scott); grandchildren, Bridget Smith Adcock and Austin Romero; step-grandchildren, Meredith Dill (Brandon); Matthew Smith (Laura) and Matthew Lawalin (Fiancée Mary Ashley) ; five great step grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Smith; cousin, Joyce Martin; nephew, and nieces.

A visitation for Edd will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Edd will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi 39209.
