Elizabeth Ernestine Aultman Baxter went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 28, 2025, at the age of 82. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Clinton, with the service to follow at 11. Burial will take place at McDonald Cemetery in Collins at 2:30.
Ernestine was born on September 8, 1942, in Collins, MS. She was a 1960 graduate of Collins High School and attended Draughon’s Business College in Jackson, MS. She later retired from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission.
She met the love of her life, Buddy Baxter, on a blind date in November 1960. They were married on July 22, 1961, and spent the next 63 years and 9 months together. She was always quick to point out that she knew when she looked into his eyes that he was ‘The One’ for her!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Aultman and Cora Aultman, and her half-brother, Durwood McDonald.
Ernestine is survived by her loving and caring jewel of a husband of 63 years, Buddy Baxter, and their two sons: Barron Baxter (Julie) and Todd Baxter. She was a loving and adoring ‘Grandma’ to two beloved grandchildren: Kristie Fowler (Scott) and Brad Baxter (Krista), and two great grandchildren: Abigail Fowler and Hannah Fowler.
Ernestine had a happy childhood. She often said that the love she received from her parents more than made up for any lack of material goods, and she also said that when she was a child Santa Claus always came to see her a day early because her parents simply couldn’t wait another day to see her enjoy her toys!
Ernestine loved people, especially her family, and she loved keeping in touch with family and friends either on the phone or through Facebook.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church-Clinton, and although her health declined in later years, her strong Christian faith and her love of Our Lord never wavered.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses from the ER, ICU, 4th floor and 5th floor units of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center for their tremendous care and support during this time.
Pallbearers are: Mike King, Scott Fowler, Mac Culpepper, James Pettit, Brad Smith and Keith Thurman.
In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully acknowledge memorials to First Baptist Church, 100 E. College St., Clinton, MS 39056, or McDonald Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 171 McDonald Rd., Collins, MS 39428.
