

She will be missed by all that knew her and will be remembered for her love, kindness and dedication to her Lord Jesus Christ, her family and friends.
Betty was born as Elizabeth Claire Harris in Pensacola, Florida on February 16,1933 to the late William Robert Harris and Audrey Louise Harvey. Betty attended Pensacola Public Schools and graduated with a high school diploma. She pursued a career in nursing and moved to New Orleans where she graduated as a registered nurse from Charity Hospital Nursing School in 1953. After becoming a nurse, she soon married James J. Bragg from Vicksburg, MS who was in the United States Air Force. They were soon transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska and then to Miami, Florida for the remainder of his service. Afterwards, they moved to Jackson, MS and bought a new house to set up a family household, they had five children. Betty worked as a nurse at St. Dominic Hospital and Hinds General Hospital, which later changed to Methodist Hospital. Betty’s husband, Jimmy passed at the age of 33 in 1966. She was left with five children to raise. Betty and Jimmy were devoted Catholics and all the children attended Catholic Church and Schools. After the children all left home, she continued nursing and retired at the age of 62. Living on her own, she soon met and married John Travis Winter. They lived in South Jackson until his death ten years later. Betty moved to Brandon where she lived her life. Betty attended Saint Therese Catholic Church for 40 plus years. After moving to Brandon, MS, she attended Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for the remainder of her life.
Betty found enjoyment spending much of her spare time planting and nourishing flowers and plants. She was especially proud of her sunroom (Solarium) which she spent lots of time making it look perfectly beautiful. Some of her other hobbies were vegetable gardening, sewing, feeding and watching the birds and she always loved cats. Betty also loved popcorn which she would enjoy while watching good clean movies, reading books or watching Little House on the Prairie. Her favorite TV channels were National Geographic, Discovery and the History Channel.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James J. Bragg, Sr. and husband John T. Winter; sons, James J. Bragg, Jr. and David A. Bragg; daughter, Laura B. Rabalais and all of her siblings except her younger brother, Tom. Betty is survived by her son, Douglas W. Bragg (Sandra); daughter, Paula B. McCormack (Charlie); brother, Thomas Harvey Harris (Joyce); son-in-law, Kerry Rabalais; grandsons, Anthony McCormack (Laura) and Michael McCormack (Karolina), Jesse Bragg, Tom Joseph Bragg, Jake Rabalais; granddaughters, Shannon Dufour and Audrey Anna Rabalais; great-grandchildren, Peyton Murtagh, Brodie Bragg, Jayce Bragg, Hayden Dufour, Camille Rabalais and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all Emergency Responders, the Saint Dominic Hospital Staff and Visiting Angels for their compassionate care in her and our time of need.
Visitation for Betty will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Lakewood Memorial Park.
