

Libba Matthews, almost 100, passed away on Wednesday August 10, 2016, at her home in Brandon Ms. She was born September 26th, 1916 to George Aaron Smith and Nina Beasley Smith of Sandersville, Ms. One of 13 children, Libba lived her entire life as a servant of Jesus Christ. He used her in mighty ways. A longtime resident of west Jackson, Libba was an active member of Parkway Baptist church for over 70 years. She graduated from Washington University through Central Institute for the Deaf, and Mississippi College. Libba was the founder and longtime director of Magnolia Speech School for the deaf in Jackson Ms. She also taught for years at MSS as well as being the chief fundraiser in the early days.
Libba was predeceased by her parents her husband C D Matthews, 7 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her sons Mark (Donna) and Keith (Shellie) 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, a sister Martha Jo Hayes (Jim) and a brother, Louis Smith.
Libba always put God first and never failed to share the gospel of her Savior whomever she came in contact with. She would end her conversations with “Read the 14th chapter of John”.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday August 15, 2016 at 12 Noon at Parkway Baptist church in Clinton Ms. Visitation will be from 10am to 12N prior to the service.
