Lynn Lorelei (Haimowitz) Edelston, 80, died on Monday, August 09, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Lynn was born on November 17, 1929, in Bronx, New York, and was the only child of Philip and Rebecca (Mitchell) Haimowitz, both deceased. She grew up in and around Queens Village, New York. After matriculating at Long Island University, she began her career as a writer for a major fashion trade journal in New York City.
On March 21, 1958, she was married to Marshall Edelston, her loving husband of 52 years, who survives her. After giving birth to son, Clifford, and daughter, Hope, in Providence, Rhode Island, Lynn and Marshall moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where Lynn relished her life as full-time mother and homemaker. During that time Lynn was active in Temple Sisterhood, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Triangle Club, and other community organizations.
Once her children went to college, Lynn returned to the fashion world she loved. For over 30 years she developed a loyal following of retail customers, who appreciated her keen sense of style and honest fashion advice. After restarting her career at Hardwick’s Women’s Apparel, Lynn ran women’s designer departments at McRae’s, Gayfer’s and Dillard’s department stores. But Lynn was never ready to retire. She continued her work in retail at Maison Weiss in Jackson until her cancer diagnosis last fall.
In addition to her husband, Marshall I. Edelston, and her children, Clifford D. Edelston of Poughkeepsie, NY and Hope L. (Edelston) Reagan of Brandon, Lynn is survived by her beloved granddaughters, Rebekah S. Reagan and Hannah L. Reagan, as well as several nieces and nephews. Sadly, Lynn was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Hollie L. Reagan. Lynn will be remembered by family and friends, not only for her elegant style, but also for her hospitality and entertainment, her dry sense of humor, and, most of all, her love and caring for her family.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Beth Israel Congregation Cemetery, at the corner of Marshall and N. State St., Jackson, MS, on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Beth Israel Congregation, 5315 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211; or to Hospice Ministries, Inc., 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.
