Flora Campbell Downey

Flora Marie Campbell Downey died Wednesday, March 4th at UMMC at the age of 80. A funeral Mass will be held at 11AM Monday, March 9th at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton, MS with visitation beginning at 10AM. She will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Flora was born on April 20, 1934 in Jackson, MS. She was the daughter of Clarence David Campbell and Mary Margaret Martinolich Campbell. Flora graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended Ursuline College in Louisville, KY where she majored in Music Education. A loving wife, mother and homemaker for 61 years, she was also an avid pianist and seamstress. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Jackson. Her parents and her sister, Mary Margaret Campbell Ryan, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Downey; son, Kenneth D. Downey; daughters, Carol D. Maples of White Hall, AR, and Margaret D. Hardy (Jack) of Terry, MS; grandchildren, Michelle Downey, Melissa Downey Boutwell (Jason), Marie Downey Wall (Roe), Jay Maples (Leah), Heather Hardy, and Leslie Hardy Smith (Drew); and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 N. State St. Jackson, MS 39216.
