

Gara Lynn Gibbons Gunter was born in Mount Olive, MS on December 3, 1948. She died peacefully on February 28, 2026 at the Brandon Nursing Center. She was 77. Mrs. Gunter was a 1967 graduate of Central High School in Jackson, MS. After graduation she attended Jackson Commercial Secretarial College. She worked at the Mississippi State Highway Department.
In 1973, Gara met the love of her life, Earl Haskell Gunter. They were married in 1975. Together they built a life in Clinton where they raised their only daughter, Lea Deniece. Mr. Gunter worked for the Air National Guard for 25 years, until his sudden death in 1999.
Gara was a woman who lived her life with quiet strength. She faced challenges that many never saw, but she continued forward with great love for the people around her. She was someone who cared deeply, who appreciated kindness, and who found comfort in the relationships she had. One of the greatest joys of her life was her daughter, Lea Deniece who she deeply loved. That love filled her days and gave her purpose.
Gara was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Haskell Gunter; parents, Dewey and Ruby Gibbons; brothers, John Gibbons, Arthur Gibbons, and Byron Delano Gibbons.
She is survived by her daughter, Lea Deniece Gunter; her sister, Freddie Fraiser and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm with the service at 3:00 pm. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
