George Timothy "Tim" Ward Sr.
December 16, 1950 – August 29, 2021
While his devoted wife held his hand, Tim departed this earth peacefully on August 29, 2021 to be with his Heavenly Father and join his loved ones waiting for him.
Tim was a gentle, loving, generous man who loved his family, his country, baseball, MS State University, the Boy Scouts of America, and south Jackson.
He was proud of serving in the U.S. Navy for 8 years during the Vietnam era as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate. During his Naval travels, Tim passed The Gateway To the Top of the World, joining the Order of the Polar Bear in the Realm of the Arctic Circle.
In civilian life, Tim transferred his immense knowledge and skillset to a career in commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technology. He touched many lives through his work and the unwavering integrity with which he lived every day.
During high school, Tim earned the outstanding Eagle Scout rank, and carried the Scouting principles, exemplified by the 12 Scout Laws, throughout his military service and civilian life. His good character and love of his fellow man commanded trust, great fondness and the respect of those fortunate to know him.
He was preceded in death by his father, George L. Ward, Jr. and his mother, Mary Lanelle Smith Ward, both of Jackson, MS.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Captolia A. Smith Ward; son, George Timothy Ward, Jr.; sister, Jaci Ward, Ph.D. and her husband John V. Richardson (Brentwood, TN); their children and grandchildren, and a loving extended family of cousins and friends.
Tim will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday, September 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at Briarwood United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.
