G. Wayne Williams of Clinton, MS passed away on Sept. 30 at the age of 78. Born in McComb, MS on August 16, 1939 to Dalton and Myra D. Williams. Wayne graduated from McComb High School and attended Southwest Community College. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi where he obtained his pharmacy degree in 1964. His career path included 30 years in sales for the Upjohn Drug Company, working in Lake Charles, LA, Clarksdale, MS, and Jackson, MS. After retiring from Upjohn, he practiced pharmacy in many venues before his second retirement from Walgreen’s in Clinton, MS. Wayne was a faithful member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton for 45 years, serving many years as an usher and enjoyed a mission trip to Israel in 2008. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow during his many years in the Rotary Club. Over the years of his career, he received many awards for excellence in sales. Wayne leaves his wife of 55 years, Lynda Ely Williams, daughters Tracy May (Gary) of Raymond, Wendy Starr of Nashville, and son Guy Williams of Nashville. Other family include his sisters Ava Jean Sanderson Herring of Hattiesburg, Nancy Cheatham (Tom) of Madison, and brother Jim Williams (Pamela) of Pearl. His grandchildren Garett May (Leeann) of Madison, Cameron May of Ridgeland, Savannah Starr of Nashville, Callie Williams and Julia Williams of Ohio, and his precious great grandchildren Gracen and Caroline May of Madison. Funeral will be Saturday, October 7th at Morrison Heights Baptist Church. Visitation 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. A special “thank you” to Valerie McDonald, his caregiver, the Clinton Fire Department, and all the medical staff at Merit Health Central. Memorials may be made to the Morrison Heights Baptist Church building fund.
