

Gladys was born November 18, 1922, in Booneville, MS, the daughter of Ada Francis Newnam and Leonard Hugh Hart. She graduated from Booneville High School and worked in Memphis during World War II for Fisher Body Company as a riveter on war planes.
She married Robert Dale Pressley of the Wheeler community in Prentiss County on April 24th, 1947 in Pontotoc MS. In 1951, after the birth of their first child, they moved to Oxford where Dale completed his education under the GI bill. They moved to Brooksville, MS and later to Clarksdale and Corinth where Bob was employed by the Mississippi Employment Security Commission. Their last move was to Jackson in 1962 where she was active through the years in community activities, girl scouting, PTA activities, Baptist Girls Auxiliary, while developing great friendships with fellow MESC employees, friends, and neighbors.
A life-long Baptist, Gladys and Bob were members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church upon their move to Jackson, and Colonial Heights Baptist in later years.
She is predeceased in death by her parents; husband, Robert Dale Pressley; son, Timothey Andrew Pressley; and siblings Alma Hart Starr, Harry Hart, Ruby Hart Shackelford, Allen Woodrow Hart, and Wade Southerland Hart.
She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra Presley Price and husband, James, of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Robin Adele Price Toups, (Chad) of Baton Rouge, LA, Christopher Grant Price (Martha Allen) of Vicksburg, Emily Allison Pressley Benson (Ben) of Vienna, VA, Jesse Samuel Pressley of St. Lake City, UT, and Maggie Eve Pressley Napier (Hagen) of Liecester, NC. Great-Grandchildren are Grant Joseph Toups, Annadele Scott Toups, James William Toups, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Beatrice Claudia Benson, Arthur Leonard Benson, both of Vienna, VA; and Hagen Pressley Napier of Liecester, NC.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Jackson with the Reverend Elisabeth Malphurs, rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Bovina, officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 with visitation to follow at the funeral home until 11:30.
The family would like to thank the management and staff of the Blake in Flowood where Gladys has been a resident for the last 7 years in the Memory Care unit. Their care, love, and support has been a wonderful blessing and brought much happiness to her through these years. Her last three birthday celebrations have been large, wonderful events at the Blake.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a favorite charity.
