Hattie Lee Baker Haynes, age 87 passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Madison. Services will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home High Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Black Jack Baptist Church Cemetery in Yazoo County. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Haynes was born Washington, DC on June 3, 1922 to the late Dr. Dewitt Talmedge and Olive Taylor Baker, Sr. She grew up in Alexandria, LA and attended high school there. She graduated in December of 1943 from LSU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. Hattie was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO during the summers with her friends.
Mrs. Haynes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. She was a member of the Las Comaradas Luncheon Club, High Noon Luncheon Club and MECCA. She enjoyed traveling especially to New England, England and the South of France, which were her favorite places. She also had a great love of pets and animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chris P. Haynes Sr., a brother Dr. Dewitt Talmedge Baker, Jr. and her parents.
Survivors include her son Chris P. Haynes, Jr. and her two daughters, Susan Harriet Haynes and Katherine Olive Haynes all of Jackson. Three grandchildren, Frances Haynes Moak and her husband Jon of Birmingham, AL., Christine Taylor Haynes and Chris P. Haynes III both of Flowood and a numerous nieces and nephews.
