

Henry Maurice Laird, Sr., 90, was born in Carson, MS on March 2, 1923 & died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 17, after a brief illness. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, August 23 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Jackson, MS. Services will be Saturday, August 24 at Broadmeadow UMC at 11:00am with Reverend Rob Hill officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at 10am at church. Interment will be at 4pm at Bassfield City Cemetery in Bassfield, MS.
Mr. Laird graduated from Carson High School & received his Bachelors and his Masters Degree from University of Southern Mississippi. He was in the U.S. Army in WWII as an infantryman in Italy. He was a member of Broadmeadow UMC & was a retired Safety Investigator for Federal DOT. He was a faithful member of Wahabi Shriners, Eastern Star, Fondren Civitan Club & a volunteer for Mississippi Sports Museum & other organizations.
He was preceded in death by parents Charles & Dovie Laird, great aunt Georgia McGehee, brothers Ralph & Melbourne Laird, first wife, Martha Saucier Laird & second wife, Virginia Robbins Laird.
Survivors include Susan Lyle (Kerry) of Baton Rouge, LA., Henry M. Laird, Jr. (Jaynie) of Madison, MS., & David Laird (Taylor) of Jackson, TN. He was PawPaw to 7 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren that he adored. Maurice was a faithful servant of God, a loving & devoted family man, and a compassionate & gentle spirit. He will be greatly missed.
