Benn Batson was the 3rd child of Thelma Bennett Batson and William T. Batson, Sr. Benn lived his whole life in Jackson but for a 2-year job in Denver, Colorado. He attended Jackson Public Schools, Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, and graduated from Murrah High School in 1965. He was a Boy Scout in Troop 23 and attained the Life Scout Badge. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and served as an acolyte. He attended Mississippi State University. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and fast cars (especially early Chevy Camaros). He often said his best times were hunting with his Dad, his brother and his nephews.
Benn worked many jobs, surveyor assistant, car salesman, bartender, retail clerk, and he was a data entry specialist for the State of Mississippi Employee Retirement System for 22 years. He was a particular favorite of his maternal grandfather, Irl E. Bennett, Jackson’s long time Zoo Director and grandmother, Mae Courtney Bennett. His paternal grandparents were Dr. Buford A. Batson and Rose Batson Hoffman. He was predeceased by his Mother and Father, sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) Batson, and much-loved aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brother, Dr. William T. Batson, Jr and his wife Carol Lawson Batson of Anchorage, Alaska, a niece, 2 nephews, grand nephews (5), a grandniece, and a great grandniece, all of whom he cared for greatly.
He was interred at Lakewood Cemetery, Jackson, next to his parents and sister.
