Upon graduation from Byram High School, in 1964. he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of Sergeant with Company A, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, FMF, "The Walking
ead." During his service to our country, he earned the following honors: National Defense Service Medal. Vietnam Service Medal w/ #1, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal (1st Awd) and a Presidential Unit Citation.
After his service, he was a Conductor for the Illinois Gulf Central/ Canadian National Railroad, retiring after working for 37 years, 7 month and 2 days.
He was a loving father and a devoted husband to Sue for 54 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna Miller, one sibling, Alex, and his loving wife, Sue.
He is survived by his children: Melissa (Davis), Shannon, Opie (Kellie), and Angela (David); siblings, Alexia, Lee and Linda; grandchildren, Kristen (Daniel), Zac (Brittany), Kaitlyn, Taylor and Logan; and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Cole, Case, Connor, Cannon, Beckett, Brody and Brantley.
A memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 13th, from 5-8 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi.
