We met  in May 1967 during the Vietnam War…  I was his radioman for about three months in 1st Squad, 1st Platoon, A/1/9 before switching to platoon radioman.  We shared many hardships and danger together.  James was a highly skilled and trained Marine.
Whenever I would borrow his cigarette to light mine he’d say, “just don’t put your fingers where my mouth goes.” He always stayed cleaner and more squared away. So sorry for his loss.

To the family or Jim and Sue, I am so sad with you. I remember when your Daddy coached Brad and Greg and Opie in baseball.  He was a kind man and a good coach.   I know you will miss your Daddy and Mamma every day for a long time.  You all are in my thoughts and prayers.  

Jim Miller is the best friend I have ever had for 64 years. We went to Byram School together, graduated together and joined the Marine Corp on the "buddy plan" where we were supposed to serve together, that only happened a few times.  We had great times fishing together and going to the deer camp where he loved to hunt.  We did a lot of gardening together in latter part of his life. I miss him so much because we use to call each other almost every day and talk about what was going on around us and the weather a lot and trying to remember the old days. Oh my, where do I start !  For 3 generations-our grandmothers, our dads & our generation -have been “family”.  The Miller & Ledbetter clans have shared many memories.  All the cookouts & softball games here at the house with Jim & his dad manning the grills & “coaching “ the teams when we were all so full of BBQ we could hardly hit the ball much less run the bases !  Gumbo on Christmas Eves, celebrating weddings & supporting each other at those times of loss are all memories of Jim I will always cherish.
Jim was a true friend..like a brother I never had. He served in Viet Nam along with his brothers, Lee & “Anky”.  He loved & cared for his parents & wife, Sue.  He loved his children, grandchildren & great grandchildren…always there for all of them & any friends that would need him.
“Eternal Rest grant unto Jim, O Lord, & let perpetual light shine upon him.  May the Souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, Rest In Peace.”

I got to know JO through our fishing trips to Lake Washington.  My brother Lonnie and cousin George Burgess worked with JO on the railroad and initially they had humorously warned me about his grumpy, matter of fact demeanor. I found this to be all they said but I also found JO was the kind of friend you wanted to have. Jim was a pleasure to be around. 
Behind that exterior was a big heart and a caring person that he went to some length to hide. He was always the first to visit my brother in the hospital during his many stays. If you ever needed him in any way he was there for you. I spent many hours fishing and hunting with him and consider him a great friend.
We missed him on our trips when he was homebound caring for Sue during her lengthy illness. But, that was JO, taking care of duty first. I appreciate his service to our country in the Marine Corp during the Vietnam war.
And I appreciate him being the friend that he was. I will always remember him in a fond way.

Jim was a member of our Byram High School Class of 64.  My memory of him is of a nice, quite, unassuming guy with a super nice smile.  Though we graduated 58 years ago, our class has managed to stay in touch over the years and remain fairly close.  Jim will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
