Jean Brown Crandall, 89, of Florence, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 30, 2021. She was born in DeQuincy, LA, August 19, 1931. The family moved locations many times while she was growing up and they eventually ended up in Jackson, MS. She received her nursing degree in May of 1954 from the then called Mississippi Southern College, now the University of Southern Mississippi. She spent the next 41 years in the nursing field, spending most of her career with the Veterans Administration. Jean married the love of her life, Lyle E Crandall on October 6, 1979. They resided in Florence, MS, where they were involved with Marvin United Methodist Church, the Cleary Community, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Her greatest joys in life were hosting family gatherings in her home and working in her ceramic shop.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gussie and Wilson Brown; husband, Lyle Crandall; her sister Elizabeth Sullivan (Herbert); brother Lamar Brown (Glender); and grandson Christopher Maldonado.
She is survived by a brother, Henry W Brown (Alice); stepdaughter, Sandra Burt (Donnie); and stepson, Michael Crandall (Susan). Numerous nieces and nephews who considered her much more than an aunt, grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews who also thought of her as a grandmother.
