Jean was born and raised in Rogersville, Tennessee to Henry Morgan and Janice Margaret Mayes, along with her older sister, Ida Catherine. Jean graduated from Rogersville High School where she was a member of their girls basketball team.
She received her undergraduate degree in business from East Tennessee State University. After graduation Jean moved to Wauchula, Florida for her first teaching job. There she met her husband of sixty-six years, Tom Hunt. They married on December 28, 1957 in Jean's hometown of Rogersville. They moved back to Tom’s home state of Mississippi and settled in Jackson.
Tom and Jean eventually moved to Clinton, where they raised both their children. Jean received a master’s degree from Mississippi College. She served as a beloved teacher at Clinton Jr. High, where she taught 8th grade math and eventually algebra. She retired in 1993.
Jean was an avid photographer and received numerous awards through the Jackson Photographical Society, of which she was a strong supporter. Her favorite subjects to capture were beautiful natural landscapes and flowers. She had the quickest wit and could tell a story with the best.
Jean was a woman of great faith and a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church. She loved her church and its members dearly. She and Tom made lifetime friendships at Northside, and in return Northside gave them a beautiful church home for many years.
Jean loved to read, and was an avid participant in many book clubs. She took much joy in feeding the birds at home, and in her later years a few cats. She made the best lemon and chocolate pound cakes. Her pound cakes and sugar cookies were well known among her family and friends. Perhaps her favorite role was that of Grandmommy. She loved and adored her grandsons Matthew and Daniel.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her grandson Daniel, her parents and her sister Ida. She is survived by her children Ray and Dee Hunt, Meg and Mike Bartlett, her grandson Matthew Tucker and her many nieces and nephews.
