Jean Hughes Miesse passed away at UMMC in Jackson, MS on August 17, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born on November 6, 1929 in Kemper County, MS to Robert Clyde and Anna Hughes. She was the youngest of seven children. Jean attended high school at Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS where she met her future husband, Jerry Miesse. She went on to graduate from Belhaven College and worked at the MS Economic Council in the early 1950s. From 1953 – 1964, she worked for the president of MSCW, Dr. Charles Hogarth. She and her family moved back to Jackson, MS in 1964 so that she could work for her brother-in-law at LG Balfour where she remained until her retirement.
She was a long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS where she taught the 3 year-old Sunday School class faithfully for 48 years. She was a current member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Clinton, MS. Jean had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel the world with family and friends. She was also an avid Mississippi State fan and finally witnessed the Bulldogs win it all at the College World Series with her grandchildren in 2021.
She will always be remembered for her love of the Lord and her love for her family. She said she felt so blessed by God putting her in a big, loving family. She valued her time with each and everyone. She was known by many names: Baby Sister, Jean, Mother, Aunt Jean, and her most treasured one, Mimi.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and her siblings Robbie Allen, Helen Laird, Anna Mae Henrion, Buddie Hughes, Lula Bell Gadmer, and Willie Lou Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Jolene Miesse, Neva Miesse Roberts (DeWayne), and Michelle Miesse McNair (Joe); her grandchildren, Kendra Wolfe McIntyre (Rob), Caitlin Wolfe Ratliff (Ben), Justin Roberts, Ellis McNair (Kristin), and Sara McNair; and 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Jackson, MS on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM followed by a 3:00 PM funeral service and committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
