Jeanne Carol Ferguson Chapman went to be with her beloved Jack on Friday, October 5, 2018, after a brief illness. Jeanne was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on December 11, 1943, and grew up in Belhaven. She attended Power Elementary, Bailey Junior High and Murrah High School, where she was a Murrah Miss. She attended Mississippi State College for Women (now MUW), for two years. In 1963, she married Jack B. Chapman and they adopted their son, David, in 1968.
She completed her undergraduate degree in education at Belhaven College and earned a master’s degree at Mississippi College. Jeanne loved teaching. She spent many years working in the Jackson Public School system where she taught French and art at Bailey and Chastain Middle Schools. She enjoyed tennis when younger and passionately watched both tennis and football on TV. Jeanne loved spending time with her friends and her annual trips to Florida to see her son, David. From the mountains to the ocean, she loved to travel. Jeanne is survived by her son, David B. Chapman (Wendi), her sister Erline C. Ferguson, brother Charles H. Ferguson (Judy), brother James R. Ferguson (Emily) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Charlotte and Dan Oglesbee and her beloved teacher friends group.
A graveside service will be held for Jeanne at 11 a.m. on October 19, 2018, at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Miss. Memorials in Jeanne’s honor may be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, P. O. Box 22789, Jackson, MS, 39225-2789.
