

Jimmy Wayne Hancock, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015 after many years of surprising so many doctors and proving time and time again that God is in control. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Lakewood South Funeral Home, McClure Rd. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 3 PM with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.
He was born on March 18, 1939 and brought up in a Christian home by his loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. and Irene Hancock in Philadelphia, MS. He served in the United States Air Force in Iceland. When he returned home, he started his career as a draftsman at the old MPI. He went into retail service and was also the night auditor and manager of the then Downtowner Inn which became the Quality Inn Executive Plaza for 19 years. He spent 27 years in the car business until his retirement in 1996. His greatest enjoyment was being a car salesman. He believed in integrity and honesty to all of his customers.
Jimmy was a member of the now closed Lakeshore Baptist Church for 32 years. He served as a deacon, Director of Brotherhood, he enjoyed singing in the choir and was on many church committees. He was a Gideon and enjoyed distributing bibles in nursing homes, hospitals, motels and his biggest joy was going to the Military Induction Center in Jackson. He was a walking testimony to the Lord. He was also a member of Forest Hill Masonic Lodge #613.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Sam Warren.
He is survived by the love of his life, Gina Hancock; children, Randy Hancock (Sue), Ricky Hancock (Paula), Renee Hicks (David), Joy Lynn Bunch (Robert), Jimmy Wayne Hancock, Jr. (Melissa); brothers, Doyle Hancock (Pearl) and Steve Hancock (Linda); 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren with one on the way; and his mother-in-law/shopping buddy, Juanita Warren.
Gina and the children want to thank Jimmy’s hospice nurse, Kevin Tucker, for not only being a wonderful nurse in taking care of him, but in becoming a good friend.
