Services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson, MS on Saturday, October 10, 2021, and include Visitation from 11 am to 1 pm with a Chapel service at 1 pm. A Graveside will be held at the pavilion at 2 pm at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Scarborough was born on the family farm in Magee, MS on June 2, 1935. He was the second of 6 children born to John C. and Lois Magee Scarborough. He graduated from Prentiss High School in 1952 and the following year, joined the United State Marine Corps at age 18. He was stationed in Hawaii where he also attended the University of Hawaii. After he received his Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant, he then attended and graduated from Hinds Junior College in 1959.
He married the love of his life, Grace Evelyn Thornton, on July 31, 1959. They went on to have 3 children, Bruce Malcolm, Melanie Jo, and Brian Lee and settled in Jackson, MS. He was a Project Manager for Neely Brothers Construction and Fountain Electric for over 35 years.
He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church for over 50 years while Grace sang in the choir.
Aside from his love of the USMC, his hobbies included "Grill Master", reading with Grace, farming at the homeplace, fishing with his sons, and visiting with his nieces, nephews and grandkids. He was also an avid member of the USMC League, Semper Fi Coffee Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Grace, and daughter, Melanie Martin; son-in-law, Van Martin; brothers, Harry, Johnny, Jimmy and sisters, Faye and Mary.
Mr. Scarborough is survived by his son, Bruce M. and daughter-in-law, Jan Davis Scarborough of Natchez; son, Brian L. of Vicksburg; Grandchildren, Joseph Martin (Sarah), Virginia Grace "Ginnie" Rogillio (Hunter), Steve Scarborough, Kellie Martin; and one great grandson, Knox V. Martin.
Pallbearers will be Brian Scarborough, Steve Scarborough, Joseph Martin, Hunter Rogillio, Kevin Bush and Sydney Bush.
The family would like to thank the staff at Adams County Nursing Home and Hospice Compassus for their skillful and loving attention given to Joe.
