John Michael Slavin, 83, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born December 13, 1942, in Queens, New York. John Michael lived a life marked by steady purpose and a deep respect for duty—qualities that were evident in the way he showed up for his work, his service, and those around him.
For 25 years, John Michael worked for New York Telephone Line as a switch technician. In a role that demanded consistency and care, he built a long and reliable career through persistence and an unwavering commitment to doing the job well.
John Michael also served in the US Army from 1965 to 1971, attaining the rank of Private 1st class. His years in uniform reflected a willingness to answer the call of service with quiet resolve and dedication.
John Michael was preceded in death by his father, John Slavin, and his mother, Phoebe Slavin. He is survived by his brother, Neal Troiano of Coram, New York.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, on August 15, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Lakewood Funeral Home on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.
