“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Joseph Jackson Lindsay, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at his home on September 17, 2019.

Joe was born on June 15, 1930, in Greenville, MS, to Jessie Nann Bowie Lindsay and Joseph Jackson Lindsay, Sr., and was one of 9 “Lindsay boys” - Andy, Warren, Wallace, Bowie, Walter, Lee Roy, Morris and Frank. Joe attended Greenville High School where he played football, and it was during his high school years that he met Vernie Lee Sellers, the love of his life.

After completing high school, Joe joined the Marine Corp and proudly served his country in Korea, attaining the rank of Sergeant. When he returned from Korea, he and Vernie were married on December 27, 1952. Together, they had three sons, Ronnie, Tim and Todd. Always the family man, his sons were his pride and joy, and he loved nothing better than to spend time with them.

Joe worked at Greenville Mill, and later as a Supervisor at Delta Metal Forming in Greenville, MS. In 1972, Joe and his family moved to Clinton, MS, where he worked as Maintenance Supervisor at Packard Electric for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

There are hardly words to describe the man he was and the life he lived. He was a proud Marine, he was loyal, faithful and steadfast, and he had a deep love for his God, his family and his country. In the words of one of his granddaughters, Kellie, “He had the kindest blue eyes, he was sharp as a tack… His sense of humor and passionate love for his family was never lost on a soul who met him.” He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Vernie Sellers Lindsay; his parents, four brothers, Andy, Warren, Wallace and Walter Lindsay. He is survived by his three sons, Ronnie (Lisa), Tim (Donna), and Todd (Christine); five grandchildren, Bridgett Henderson (Shane), Joseph Lindsay (Dana), Kellie Lindsay Garner, Ashley Googe (Josh) and Abbey Lindsay; as well as four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Jaxon, Braedon and Jameson; and four brothers, James Bouie, Lee Roy, Morris and Frank Lindsay.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019, from 9am – 11am, with services immediately following at Lakewood Memorial Parks and Funeral Homes, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baptist Hospice, 1200 North State St., Jackson, MS 39202.
