

Josie Lascaro Shanks passed away peacefully Tuesday April 29th 2025. She was born June 14, 1935 in Amite, Louisiana to Anthony and Mary Lascaro. She graduated from Amite High School in 1953. She went on to be a legal secretary/accountant. She was married to the love of her life John “Jack” A. Shanks on February 15, 1958. They met in New Orleans and were happily married until his death in 1992. They decided to make their home in Jackson, MS in 1958. Her pride and joy were her two daughters and four grandchildren.
She was active in her church. She served frequently on church councils over the years. She enjoyed gardening. She loved helping others and was known for her quick wit and kind heart. She enjoyed playing bridge in her spare time. She was a member of the Women Accountants Association for many years. She enjoyed being a member of the Women’s Sertoma Club. She spent most of her career working as the accounts payable/benefits coordinator at a local private school in Jackson, MS.
She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Daugherty (David), and Jackye Moore (Rodney) She is also survived by her four grandchildren, John Daugherty, Joseph Daugherty, Allie Moore, and Clayton Moore. She is survived by her brother Nick Lascaro and his wife Shannon, and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Ann Accomando, Marie Boyd and Frances Marretta.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Blake Township and Covenant Caregivers for their care of Josie over the last 5 ½ years as well as Gentiva Home Health for their assistance the last 8 months. A very special thanks to her two sweet friends and personal caregivers Veronica Brown and Alice Levy.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital or the Webster Animal Shelter.
The family will have a private graveside service.
