

June P. Harkins passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Known for her deep faith, unwavering devotion, and radiant spirit, she cherished her family and embraced the values that defined her life.
Born on July 11, 1925, in Uniontown, PA June grew up in the St. John Catholic Church community, attended Penn State University and while in Pennsylvania had a successful career with Bell Telephone Company.
After World War II, June was introduced by a cousin to Ansley Harkins, a visiting friend from Mississippi. The two were married on August 3, 1949, in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Mississippi in 1957, where they made their lifelong home.
Ansley, a dedicated home-building contractor and developer in the Jackson area for over 60 years, was supported wholeheartedly by June, who played an active role in the business.
June was a lifelong Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of Saint Richard Catholic Church. She and Ansley enjoyed a vibrant social life, including extensive travel throughout the world, and regular dinner and dance dates twice a week.
In her later years, June (Winee) found immense joy in supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ever prepared, she carried a chair in her SUV, ready to attend their sporting events and cheer them on with pride and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ansley Harkins; grandparents, James and Margaret Murray; her parents, Amadee and Catherine Provance; her siblings, Amadee Provance Jr; Jean Perella, Kenny Provance, James Provance, Margaret Beatty, Patricia Havanas, and Janet Thomas.
She is survived by her children, James P. Harkins Sr. (Bridget), Michael M. Harkins Sr. (Carny), and Catherine A. Harkins; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, her cousin Peggy Dugan (Stan) of Willimantic CT her siblings Mary Catherine Wallace and Veronica Klink of Uniontown, PA.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Blake of Township for the care given to June. The family also extends a special thank you to her personal caretakers, Loretta Powell, Marisol Castro, and Maria Diamond.
A private family mass and celebration of her life was held on Thursday January 2, 2025, with her cousin Father Dennis Mary Dugan, SOLT of Phoenix, Arizona presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Saint Richard Special Kids Program 100 Holly Drive, Jackson, MS 39206 or by visiting the school website: strichardschool.org or the Sisters of Mercy Ministries, Post Office Box 824, Mound Bayou, MS 38762.
