Kathryn "Kaye" Lucille Shanks Gray

Kathryn Lucille Shanks Gray passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4th at the age of sixty-three after a debilitating thirteen year battle with Pick’s Disease. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6th at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson at 12 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. and burial immediately following at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Kaye was born May 14, 1952 in Jackson at St. Dominic’s Hospital to the late Fred D. Shanks and Frances McMillan Shanks. She graduated from Wingfield High School in 1970. Kaye was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church of Madison. She was a long time employee of the Hinds County Tax Collector Office and later spent years as a brokerage assistant with area financial and security firms. Kaye served as a delegate for the State of Mississippi for the Republican National Convention of 1976 in Kansas City, MO. She was also a founding member of the local 120 Club chapter, serving as secretary for the club and as its first female member. Kaye’s passion for all things Mississippi State University was only surpassed by her love for her large family.

Survivors include: son, Jason Gray and wife Kristyn of New Orleans, LA, and grandchildren Mary Katherine and Jackson; son, Justin Gray and wife Shante of Canton, grandchildren Justin Michael, Devin, and Wesley; brothers, David Shanks and wife Kay of Bossier City, LA; Doug Shanks and wife Kay of Brandon; Don Shanks of Pascagoula; sisters, Mimi Shanks Barrett and husband Don of Nashville, TN; and Beth Shanks Frizsell of Jackson. She also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews and extended family loved ones.

The family would like to thank Saint Catherine’s Village and the staff at Campbell Cove for the ten years they cared for Kaye. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland for their compassion and care during her final days.

Serving as pallbearers will be Fred David Shanks III, Fred Daniel Shanks, Sim Shanks, Bryce Barrett, Devin Gray, and Ron Walker.
