He was proud of his naval service during WWII era, serving in the US Navy from 1946-1948. Tommy married Helen Castilaw on December 15, 1948, in Brookhaven, MS. He was a loving husband to Helen Castilaw Thompson for 76 years. He was also a loving father to five children Cathie, Melanie, Cyndi, Virgil and Chris. He was a life long motorcycle enthusiast, and an avid member of GWRRA. He also enjoyed camping and boating. He achived the rank of Eagle Scout and was a Scout Master for his sons. He could work on anything mechanical, loved people, and was a good friend.
Tommy is preceded by his parents; and son Chris Thompson.
Tommy is survied by his wife Helen Thompson, daughters, Cathie Banks (Roy), Melanie Carter (Walter), Cyndi Cavanaugh; son Virgil "VT" Thompson (Robin); sisters Jan Vaden (paul), and Denise Forsyth (Jim); grandchildren, Lena Knowles, Morgan Pierce (Andrew), Amy Masters (Justin), Shane Thompson (Laura), Shannan Fuller (Scott), Ashlie Holt, Wilkes Carter (Courtney), Paul Carter, Brooke Carter, and Justin Thompson; 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Tommy will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 AM. Tommy will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park South, 430 Mccluer Rd, Jackson, MS 39212.
