Louise B Pigford, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Hospice Ministries. A private family service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 13 at Lakewood Memorial Park. Friends are encouraged to join the family via Facebook live at www.facebook.com/LakewoodMemorial/.
Mrs. Pigford was born on January 7, 1928 in Rose Hill, Mississippi to Leroy and Ethel Boyd. On May 31, 1947, she married Jefferson Davis Pigford. She attended nursing school as a young adult and later completed her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. They raised one daughter, Linda, and three sons, Larry, Randy, and Mike.
Mrs. Pigford was a member of Wynndale Baptist Church where she was involved in the Young at Heart class until declining health kept her home. First and foremost, she was a Christian - quick to share a Bible verse or sing a hymn. Her favorite Bible verses were: John 14:1-4 and Proverbs 3:5-6. Until moving from South Jackson, she was a long time member of McDowell Road Baptist Church where she served as the Daycare Director and taught Sunday School. For a few years she was Cub Scout’s Den Leader to Randy and Mike’s troop.
She had many hobbies and one of her favorites was gardening. She loved all flowers, plants, digging in the dirt, and just being outside, enjoying God’s creation. She nursed for many years at Hinds General Hospital working the 3p-11p shift so she could dedicate her mornings to working in their yard. Traveling the United States and abroad, with senior adult groups, was another favorite pastime. She enjoyed the fellowship with friends and beautiful scenery each trip brought her. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed sharing her love for books with her family. As long as she was able, she would frequent the local library.
She wasn’t beyond pulling a prank and loved a good laugh. Hiding Christmas presents to not remember where or poking fun at someone were examples of her humorous personality. Often included on family road trips, she loved car games, “if you can’t say a rhyme and say it on time, I’ll throw you out the window”. There was not a nursery rhyme or children’s song that she did not know and shared with her many grand and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all for her quick wit, kind heart, and most generous spirit.
Mrs. Pigford is joyfully reunited with those that preceded her in death: her parents, Leroy and Ethel Boyd; her husband, Jeff Pigford; her brothers, Leroy Boyd, Jr. and Cooper Boyd; her sisters, Bernice Jones and Annie Sue Chancellor; and grandson, Adam Sears.
Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her unspeakable joy. She never missed an opportunity to be with family as they were always a priority.
Those survivors are, her children: Linda (Jesse) Hartley, Larry (Becky) Pigford, Randy (Deborah) Pigford, and Mike (Terri) Pigford. Her grandchildren: Lauri (Jeff) Siegler, Jacob Pigford, Natalie (Dave) Elliott, Josh (Ashley) Pigford, Todd (Laura) Hartley, Randi (Jeff) Hooker, Lacy Pigford, and Alex Pigford. Her great grandchildren: Abby, Carli, and Brinlee Elliott; Zeke, Asher, and Maren Hartley; Peyton Siegler; Emilia, Owen, and James Hooker; Sindy, Marietta, and Savannah Pigford. And last but not least, her surviving sisters, and sisters-in law: Catherine Boyd, Mary Ann (Carl) Sumrall, Becky (George) Pippin, Patsy (Butch) Herrington; along with many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Hospice Ministries and long-term sitter, Erica Floyd for their loving care.
