Mrs. Gadmer passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland one week shy of her 97th birthday. Funeral services will be at Lakewood Funeral Home at 11:30 am on Thursday, October 25 with visitation from 10:00 to 11:30.
Mrs. Gadmer was born in Daleville, Mississippi on October 28, 1921. She was one of nine children born to Robert C. Hughes and Anna Frasier Hughes.
Lou graduated from Ponta High School in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, where she was an outstanding basketball player.
In 1940, she married Charles Welton Caldwell, and of this union, one daughter, Faye, was born. Welton died in 1964.
Lou was a lovely lady who never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew her.
In 1966, she married Henry Paul Gadmer and they owned and operated Dearing Addressing & Mailing Service until his retirement. They shared many happy years together until his death from lung cancer in 1986. Gadmer (as he was called) was not only a wonderful husband, but also a great stepfather to Faye and grandfather to Lou’s granddaughters, Angela and Lori Byrd.
Lou was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church and loved attending her Sunday school class where she had many great friends. Lou lived in Brookside Gardens in Clinton, Ms for 10 years before moving to The Waterford where she had many friends and enjoyed attending Still Water Interdenominational Church with Pastor, David Raddin.
Lou is survived by her daughter, Faye Caldwell McGriff and son-in-law, Dr. E. Corbin McGriff, two granddaughters, Angela Byrd Byers and her husband, Dr. Paul B. Byers of Jackson, Ms, and Marsha Lorraine (Lori) Byrd of Pacifica, California; three great grandchildren, Chelsea Rowe Byers Vaughn (Hunter), Courtney Caldwell Byers Moffett (Craig), and Christopher Emmett Byers (Morgan); one great great granddaughter, Emmett Caldwell Moffett; and one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Jean) Miesse.
She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Callaghan Byrd Byers, to whom she was devoted, her husbands, H. P. Gadmer and Charles Welton Caldwell, five siblings, Mrs. H. E. (Bobbie) Allen, Mrs. Robert (Anna Mae) Henrion, Robert C. (Buddie) Hughes, Mrs. Dewitt (Helen) Laird, Mrs. Jimmy (Bill) Smith, J. T. Hughes, and Omega Hughes; and her parents Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Hughes.
