

Mack Rhea Weathersby, 94, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at his home in Clinton. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Clinton on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 2pm with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mack was born on July 24, 1921 in Jackson, MS to the late Andrew Boone and Mary Ruth Baggett Weathersby. His childhood years were spent in Albuquerque, NM. He moved back to Weathersby, MS in 1934 where he lived at the old homestead with his aunt in a house that his grandparents had built in 1890. Mack graduated from Mendenhall High School where he lettered in football and basketball. During his senior year of high school he joined and lived in the CCC Camp in Mendenhall. He served his country in the ARMY during two wars: WWII and the Korean War. While in WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater with F Company 339 Engineers. He received two Bronze Stars for the Southern Philippine Liberation, the Bronze Arrowhead, and the Meritorious Unit Award. During the Korean War he served stateside at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Mack worked at the VA Hospital from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. While working at the VA he met, Ethel Busby, and they were married in the VA Chapel in 1952. He coached Little League Baseball and Dizzy Dean League for many years. Mack enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and working in his big backyard garden for over 40 years. He loved spending time with his two brothers, A.B. and Tommy. They developed and took care of the land in New Mexico that their father had bought in 1925.
He had been a member of First Baptist Church Clinton since 1955. Mack was very involved in NARFE. He enjoyed working on home projects and reading the newspaper every morning. Above all, he loved being involved with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.
Mack is survived by his loving wife, Ethel; children, Paul Weathersby and wife Beth, Sandra Cain and husband Ray, Phillip Weathersby and wife Sherrill; grandchildren, Elizabeth Weathersby, Laura Nichols (Ryan), Erica Tucker (Jason), Catherine McKee (Taylor), Olivia Cain, Blair Foster (Bobby), Jake Weathersby; and one great grandchild, Cameron Nichols.
