Maggie Ruth Ledlow McAdory was born on her parents’ farm in central Newton County, Mississippi, on December 19, 1931; she graduated from Decatur High School and married Travis McAdory in 1950 in Decatur, Mississippi. The couple moved to the Alta Woods neighborhood of Jackson, then to Hattiesburg and Picayune before returning to Jackson in 1955. She attended East Central Junior College in Decatur and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Mississippi College. Maggie completed her education and began her professional career as an elementary school teacher after her children started school. She taught in the Hinds County School District one year and spent the rest of her career with Jackson Public Schools, retiring in 1994. She moved to Brandon in 2006 and was living there when she passed away on October 14, 2018. Maggie was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was an active member of Alta Woods Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was also involved in the Sew-n-Sews sewing circle and Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education.
Maggie had a passion for gardening and enjoyed being outdoors. She loved piddling around in her yard and could get pretty much anything to grow just by dipping it in rooting solution and sticking it in the ground. She was a gifted seamstress and made most of her daughter’s clothes as well as a lot of Barbie outfits. Her cooking was terrific - she made the best cornbread dressing and pecan pie and could always whip up a quick and tasty meal from whatever was in her freezer. She loved her Sunday School, church, and teacher friends and enjoyed going to lunch with and taking trips with her friends as long as she was able to do so. Her day wasn’t complete unless it started and ended with a cup of coffee – with several cups in the middle. But most of all, she loved her family; especially, her grandchildren. She was their biggest supporter and cheerleader and she bragged on them at every opportunity. She was a wonderful mother, Grandma, and MeeMaw and will be missed by all.
After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, she is reunited with her husband of almost 42 years, Travis McAdory. She is also predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Virginia Ledlow, and her brothers Ernest, Raymond and Willie Ledlow. Survivors include son Robert McAdory (Pamela Pape), daughter Marcia McAdory Rachel (Steve), sister Jean Ledlow Hatcher, grandchildren Chris Rachel (Katie), Becky Rachel Holt (Tyler), Sara McAdory-Kim (Jaymin), Susan McAdory, and Paul McAdory, four great grandchildren (Lilian Rachel, Lauren Rachel, Jonathan Holt and Maggie Rose Holt), her sisters-in-law, Ruby Ledlow and Imogene Ledlow, and a host of nieces and nephews.
