Mary Ellen Kahlstorf, 71, born in Laurel went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5 after a valiant fight with multiple strokes. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents John and Hilda Sommers and her sister, Patricia Sommers. David and Mary Ellen met while students at Southern Miss where they fell in love and got married. She was David’s best friend, soul mate and the love of his life. Nothing made her happier than being with her family and pampering them, especially her three daughters and the grandkids. In addition she was an avid reader and excellent cook. The highlight of her week was going to church and her weekly bible study group. Mary Ellen was truly one of a kind; a very loving, caring, giving lady and the most patient and unselfish person there ever was. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her husband David.
The family would like to thank Drs. Paul Vandlandingham and Angela Chandler for all their care, Rev. Dennis Daniels of First Baptist Church and Rev. John Patterson of Colonial Heights Baptist Church for their love and comfort, therapists Woody Wilkerson and Niki Singletary for their friendship and hard work.
