She lived in several different MS cities until the onset of World War II then moved to New Orleans, LA. until 1946 when the family moved to Jackson. It was here that she graduated Clinton High School in May of 1949.
It was during her high school days that she met her soulmate Robert Peyton Sheppard and they married in September of 1949. She attended Holsteads Business School and started her work career at Commercial Band which became Deposit Guaranty Bank.
When Robert joined the Air Force in 1950 she started a long life as a military wife and made a home for them wherever they were stationed. She and her 3 sons were with Robert at every duty station except Korea and the Panama Canal. She was an exemplary military wife and made the best of hard situation for her and her sons Robert, David and Jeffery.
She worked during these times for Sears Credit in Texas and Jackson. She was also on the draft board in Jackson and then went to work for the Supreme Court where she retired in 1996.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert, her Parents, her stepfather T.H. Wells and her son Jeffery "Skip" Sheppard.
She is survived by her sons Buck and David, her grandchildren Jason and Jessica, her great grandchildren Makayla, Julia, Sean and Kashlynn Mae.
She will always be remembered for her big heart, her ability to make even hard times seem easy, and the love she had for her family and friends. She will be forever missed
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Mary will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park.
