

Mary was born in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Richard (Dick) A. Johnson and Gladys Crowley Johnson. She graduated from Central High School in 1953.
Mary married Edd Elton Smith in 1955 and enjoyed a 69-year marriage to her surviving spouse who was always at her side.
Mary was primarily a homemaker and mother, but worked early in life at a downtown Jackson department store, a dry cleaners, and a church daycare.
She was very social and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She and Elton enjoyed camping and travel as well as participating in activities at Westmont Christian Church, Midway Baptist Church, and Pocahontas Baptist Church over the years.
Mary loved to spend time with her grandchildren, whether it was fishing in the neighborhood pond, watching the ducks, or going to the zoo.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Rhett Alexander Smith; and son-in-law, Clifton Romero.
She is survived by husband Edd Elton Smith; son, Edward N. Smith (Donna Sue); daughter, Teresa Romero (fiancee’, Scott); grandchildren, Bridget Smith Adcock; and Austin Romero; step-grandchildren, Meredith Dill (Brandon); Matthew Smith (Laura); five great step grandchildren; and cousin, Betty Shafer.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to Pocahontas Baptist Church.
