

99-year-old Mary Frances Brown Vaughn of Brandon, MS, passed away peacefully from this world on January 29, 2026, at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She finally reached her goal and has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary was born on December 31, 1926, in New Hebron, Mississippi - the third child of Rebecca and Mosby Brown. She had five brothers and sisters. Growing up on a farm during the depression, Mary learned the importance of hard work, and she worked hard throughout her life. After graduating from New Hebron High School, she attended Mississippi Baptist Hospital Gilfoy School of Nursing in Jackson, MS, graduating in 1948. On May 2, 1948, the day after she graduated from nursing school, she married the love of her life, Harold Clay (Bill) Vaughn in Jackson, Mississippi, where they lived with their four daughters until Bill's death in 2000.
Mary was the ultimate caregiver - working as a nurse for the Children's Clinic, a pediatric group in Jackson prior to the births of her girls, raising the girls, then working on the Urology floor at Baptist Hospital in Jackson until she retired in 1990. She served as caregiver for her husband until his death from Alzheimer's Disease.
Mary was a lifelong active member of the Baptist Church - spending most of her adult life as a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Jackson/Madison. After she retired, Mary spent her time enjoying gardening, playing with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, reading, working word puzzles and watching football.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, her mother and father, her brothers, James and William (Junebug) and her older sister Erminia.
She is survived by her sisters Betty Thrash (Chattanooga, TN) and Joy Ferrell (Flowood, MS); her four daughters - Cindy Tupis (Bill) Memphis, TN; Peggy Wallace (Karl) Kingsland, TX; Patty Langley (Bobby) Olive Branch, MS; and Marty Grubbs (Keith) Clinton, MS; her eight grandchildren - Amy Tupis Cucullu (Keith), Daniel Tupis (Nicola), Christina Wallace Deloach, Jacob Wallace (Susana), Clay Langley (Brandi), Brad Langley (Kelly), Rebecca Grubbs Harper (Josh), and Mallory Grubbs Watkins (Ethan), and her 13 great-grandchildren - Madeleine Cucullu, Alex Cucullu, Myra Deloach, Daniel Wallace, Hannah Langley, Gavin Langley, Alaina Langley, Greyson Langley, Jude Langley, Leo Langley, Jordan Harper, Ava Harper, Brynn Harper, Mae Watkins and Clara Watkins.
A visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, located at 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS, on February 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location at 12:00 pm, with Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
