

Mavis Carr Burch, 90, of Raymond passed away November 27, 2015 at Trinity Rehab in Clinton. Visitation will be 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, November 29, 2015 and Monday, November 30 at 1 pm with funeral services at 2 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Burch was born in 1925 to Albert V. and Cordie Carr in Raleigh, MS along with her 10 siblings. Ms. Mavis married Charles Robert Burch in January of 1945. The family moved to Jackson in the mid 50’s. Mrs. Burch worked from home while raising her girls and other’s children that called her “Mama Burch.” Later, she sold Tupperware, worked in gift wrap at McRae’s Department Store, and finally at Hinds Community College in Student Registration. She was an active member of Midway Baptist Church for over 60 years.Mrs. Burch was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son, Charles Jr., her daughter, Rebecca Ellen “Becky” Burch, and 9 of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Janet Burch McAlpin and son-in-law Mike of Raymond, a grandson, Josh McAlpin (Laura) of Terry, her granddaughter, Ashley McAlpin Taylor (Johnathan) of Byram, 3 great grandchildren, Caleb and Matthew McAlpin of Terry and Jayden Taylor of Byram and her sister Clarice Callahan of Hattiesburg.A special thank you to the staff of Trinity Rehab for caring for Mama for the past 7 years.
