Service, giving God all of the praise and glory for blessing us with her
wonderful life, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, 27 November 2013 at
Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston R. Graves and her son, Kenneth
G. Graves. Surviving family includes: her sons, Dale (Linda), Michael (Sharon),
Douglas and Stephen; her sisters, Mavis and Jo (Jim); her grandchildren, Mason,
Bryan, Dana (Chris) and Chris; her great grandchild, Lexie Marie; nephews and
nieces.
Mrs. Graves was born in Tippah County on 25 February 1928. Following high
school, she moved to Jackson, MS to attend Draughon's Business College. Finding
employment quickly, she stayed in Jackson and soon found the man that would
become her husband. They then found themselves with five boys. She would say
that was God's purpose for her life - to be a Mom. And what a Mom she was -
Simply put, She was Great. A woman of an enormous and exacting integrity, a
deeply profound and practical faith and an unending source of strength and love,
Mom's management of the family would rival the country's best CEO. The breadth
of her talents and skills knew few limits - her Sunday dinners were legendary,
mechanical and operational problems were no match, she single-handily manned the
24-hour ER that a home of five boys becomes and no mother in the neighborhood
ever shot a better lay-up. At the end of every long and exhausting day, after
she had everyone else settled and
in bed, all she needed to call the day a success, was to curl up with a bowl of
popcorn, a Goo-Goo Cluster Supreme and the daily newspaper. We love her. We miss
her already. And we will see her again soon...
If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to the Ken Graves
Memorial Scholarship & Engineering Fund 500414, Mississippi State University,
Bagley College of Engineering.
