Myrtis Haynie Todd died on Saturday May 23rd 2020: Wife; homemaker; pastor’s wife; mother; grandmother; sister; aunt; social worker (Jefferson Parish LA and City of Louisville KY); teacher (Hume Fogg High School and John Overton High School); curriculum writer (Baptist Sunday School Board, now Lifeway).
Mrs. Todd was born in Clinton MS on October 14, 1920, to the late Walter Robinson and Vivian Pell Haynie. She married on October 18, 1942 to Wayne Edward Todd, Baptist pastor of churches in Kentucky and Mississippi and a denominational leader. He passed away on July 10, 1986. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Gloria H Bullock and Bobbie H King; two brothers, William S Haynie and H. Lowrey Haynie; daughter in law Allyson M Todd; and great granddaughter Logan Lea Todd.
A graduate of Hillman College and Blue Mountain College, both in Mississippi, Mrs. Todd also took a number of graduate courses at Peabody College. An avid reader she considered herself “a life long learner”. Like Chaucer’s clerk, “gladly would she learn and gladly teach”. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, she taught adult Sunday School classes there for almost 50 years.
She is survived by a son, Michael L. Todd (Mickey), Franklin, and her daughters Vivian Todd Wooley (Malcolm) Houston, TX and Laura Lee Todd, Brentwood. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren: Jana W Whitby (Thomas III) Houston, TX, Robert M Wooley, Houston, TX, Leigh W. Foster (Scott) Toronto, Canada; Jason M Todd (Beth), Amy T Link (Bo) of Nashville and Rebecca T Blair (Jarrod), Memphis.; great grandchildren: Claire Whitby, Collin Whitby, and Connor Wooley, Houston, TX; Jack P. Foster Tate C. Foster, and Evie J Foster, Toronto Canada.; Allyson C Link, Andrew A Link, and Miles E Todd all of Nashville. In addition, she is survived by loving nieces, nephews, as well as great and great, great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday May 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS. Interment to follow after service
