Nancy Carol Breland, 72, of Pearl MS passed away peacefully on September 15, 2021 at St Dominic’s Hospital. She was born on September 13, 1949 in Jackson MS.

She was married to her husband, Calvin Breland, for over 52 years. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Jennifer Breland McCollough(Ryder), of Florence MS and step-grandchildren Logan and Reagan; son, Jason Breland(Mary Evelyn), of Flowood MS, along with grandchildren Brinkley, Baylor, Callan, Isaac, and Anderson; brother, Thomas Alford of Pearl MS; and sister, Billie Herring of Flowood MS.

Nancy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and she truly exemplified a Christian life. She never passed up an opportunity to give her testimony and share her love for God. Her giving nature, loyalty to family and friends, and her gift for encouraging others through hard times will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nancy retired in 2014, after 46 years as a cosmetologist. She had numerous customers who were with her through her entire career, and she was deeply loved by all. She not only kept them looking beautiful to perfection, but also shared caringly in their personal lives with dedication and compassion. Nancy lived her entire life completely devoted to her family. Family was everything to Nancy, and she was faithful to their every need. In the early years of raising Jennifer and Jason, Calvin and Nancy decided together that she would be a stay-at-home mother---a job she adored. This afforded her time to attend the children’s school events, participate in PTO, and be at home when the children came in from school to help with homework and provide an after school snack. Her children deeply appreciate the sacrifices made so that she could be ever-present. Nancy’s favorite hobby was gardening. She loved to work in her yard, and her gardening was appreciated by so many. A visit to Nancy’s yard was like visiting an oasis in a park. A phrase heard about Nancy over and over by so many was “she has a heart of gold.” She was always there for not only family but numerous friends to comfort and help in any way possible. Nancy was a beautiful person, winning Cutest Girl in high school. She was truly blessed with outward beauty as well as inward beauty. Her smile would light up a room!

In 2015, on her birthday, Nancy was hit hard when diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer. She was about to embark on the hardest challenge of her entire life. She met that challenge with courage and prayer. She fought a very valiant battle with her loving husband and family supporting her. God blessed Nancy with six years of life following the cancer diagnosis. Unexpectedly, she succumbed to complications from a stroke. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Paul Seago, Melanie Coker NP, and the entire staff at St. Dominic’s Gynecologic Oncology Clinic.

Visitation will be from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson MS 39209 followed by funeral service at 1:00pm.

Nancy was a very close friend of my mom Ruth Wilson and she was her hairdresser for probably more than three decades. My mom would go see Nancy every Friday not only to get her hair fixed but also for conversation and friendship. I have a great admiration for Nancy and Calvin and Jennifer and their entire family. I love them very much and my mom loved them too.

My heart and prayers go out to Calvin and family and to cousin Billie Ruth. I have a lot of wonderful memories of Nancy growing up... shelling peas on Granny's porch for hours, family gatherings, helping in granny's kitchen... and so many more .
She was a beautiful person outside and inside. God is getting an angel for sure. I know she's there celebrating with all the family. I did love her.
