IN THE CARE OF
Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Park
On Wednesday, January 18, 2023 our beloved mother, Nannie Lee Herran (Nancy Curtis) passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 103 years old, a wife, mother of five children, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
A lifelong Mississippi native, our mother was well loved by her church family and her neighbors in her small town of Pearl, MS.
She was a strong compassionate woman who loved the Lord, her family and friends. Her ministry included taking care of those that were ill, preparing meals and caring for children of parents in need. Her love for gardening was evident by the beautiful flowers she grew and was often recognized with the "yard of the month".
She was also recognized as employee of the month while working with the Mississippi State Hospital, providing loving care for her patients, where she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James William Herran and Emma Caroline Martin Herran; one brother, Braxton Herran; two sisters, Bradis Herran Sharp and Lou Nell Herran Henderson; her husband, Thomas Leon Curtis; her daughter, Janice Marie Barnes McCarty; and son-in-law, Wayne McCarty.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Nell Barnes Burney (Jacky D.) of Clinton, Mississippi, Donald Franklin Barnes of Star, Mississippi, Thomas Lee Barnes (Shelia) of Forkville, Mississippi, and Deborah Kaye Barnes Jimenez, of Brandon Mississippi. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great Grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS 39209, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
