Mama was known for keeping a clean house. I recall once a middle-aged well-heeled couple in a new car stopping by for some reason I have either forgotten, or never knew. Never saw them again.

The lady stepped into our modest ranch home, and the floor immediately caught her attention - a common tile floor.

"My lord!" she exclaimed, "I've always heard about people keeping their floors so clean you could eat off them..." she eyed them closely, her admiration apparent "...but this is the first time I've ever seen one that made me think that you really could! I'm serious, you could really eat from this floor."

That's even more of a challenge - and an accomplishment - if you know us two boys who lived there. I believe our sisters may even admit they weren't the tidiest girls in town, either.

At least we didn't have to worry about a Five-Second Rule at our house. We just had a Til-Somebody-Steps-On-It Rule.
