Mrs. Olivia H. Parks

December 8, 1944January 7, 2021

Olivia H. Parks, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at her home. A small service will be held on Sunday, January 10 at Lakewood Funeral Home starting at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Jon McCoy of Christ Methodist Church will be officiating. The service will be streamed via Facebook Live at

Olivia was born on December 8, 1944 in Ware Shoals, SC. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, godmother and friend. She was loved and well-respected by everyone around her. She always put others’ needs ahead of her own. She will be greatly missed by so many whose lives were made better because she was a part of it. Her family takes great comfort knowing that she is peacefully at rest.

Olivia spent many years as a pharmacist before retirement. Many of her customers counted her as a friend because she took such good care of them. She was a volunteer coordinator for Christ United Methodist Church at Stewpot Community Services and was a member of the Board of Directors at Hope House. She was active in United Methodist Women. In addition to being involved in Sunday School, she enjoyed playing bridge and watching her Dodgers play and win a World Series in 2020. Her three grandchildren brought her much joy. She loved playing card games with her family and her competitive nature was contagious. She loved traveling with family, friends, or whoever was willing to go on an adventure with her, and if the travels included a visit to an art museum, even better.

Olivia is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Nannette Mullinax.

She is survived by her children, Trey Parks of New Cumberland, PA, and Grace Parks Parmley and her husband Loren Parmley of Madison, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Parmley, Anna Grace Parmley, and Joseph Parmley, also of Madison, MS. And she is survived by her siblings, Annette Morrah of Walhalla, SC and Jones Herring, of Columbia, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for donations to either Stewpot Community Service, Inc., P.O. Box 3610, Jackson, MS 39207, or Hope House of Hospitality, 786 East Northside Drive, Jackson, MS 39206. Olivia did a lot for both places and would want her memory honored that way.

Olivia lived life large. She loved to travel with friends and family. She loved sports of all kinds. She love her Bridge playing with friends. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren. The most important thing, she loved her Lord. She taught Sunday School, was a Stephen Minister, was our Bible study leader and a UMW member ,just to name a few areas in which she was involved. She was very mission minded and love to work and contribute financially to Stew Pot and Hope House. She made each one of her friends feel special and loved them and prayed for them. What a great legacy! We will all miss her so much. Gay Tompkins

Olivia was a one of a kind individual. She was a caring, loving person who always had your back. She was in my CUMC UMW ladies circle group and was a great influence upon us. She was my Bible Study leader and I was blessed by her actions and her words. She was dedicated to helping the Stewpot Ministries and they were blessed by her through her service.

My friend is missed and there will always be a special place in my heart for her. Olivia, you are serving God in Heaven as you did here. Rest In Peace my friend.

Sending prayers for her family.
