Opal Marie Sims

Opal Marie Sims Brandon Opal Marie Sims, 88, of Brandon passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with funeral services to be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born on August 25, 1928 to the late Steve C. and Lena Sims of Bay Springs, MS. She was 1 of 13 children.

Her working career started with Bell South in the 1950’s and ended with her retirement in 1992 with Sperry Vickers/Eaton Aerospace. She was a member of Pinelake Baptist Church of Brandon, MS. She loved her church, the Lord, and her family- also including her “extended” family. She was the “Pied Pipper”.

Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Taylor Sims; her parents, brothers, Corbit Sims, Haskel Sims, Lesker Sims, Coyt Sims all of Bay Springs, MS; sisters, Sammie Morgan of Sante Fe, NM, Nobie Reed of Ocean Springs, MS, Ester Lee (Essie) Kyle of Jackson, MS.

Mrs. Sims leaves behind her daughters, Cindy Sims Turner of Brandon, MS, Donna Sims Sojourner of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Lena Marie Franklin of Brandon, MS, Lacey A. Turner of Brandon, MS, Taylor Sojourner McGowan (James) of Richland, MS; great grandchildren, Nicholas Martel Anderson, Abigail Marie Anderson, Dajia Williams, McKenzey Caitlyn Turner, Alexis McGowan, Ryder McGowan, Summer Jade McGowan, and Kason Cruz Turner; brothers, Chester C Sims (Julia) of Pearl, MS, Richard Steve Sims of Kingsport, TN, Toby Lane Sims (Jean) of Bay Springs, MS; sisters, Bobbie Johnson of Laurel, MS and Glenda Ann Jones (Bennie) of Richmond, VA.
