Rev. Paul Cain Mills

Paul C. Mills, 83, an ordained minister of the Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ) died February 15, 2011. Rev, Mills was born August 4, 1927, to Paul Cain Mills, Sr. and Ethel Randolph Mills in Nashville, TN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 19, 2011 from the High St Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and interment will follow the service in Lakewood Memorial Park.

He did his undergraduate work at David Lipscomb College. He received an M.A. degree in English from George Peabody College and in 1954 the M. Div. from Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, he was awarded the Founder’s Medal for being first in his class.

In 1958, he became assistant minister of Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta, GA. In 1960 be began a nine year ministry at First Chrictian Church in Sarasota, FL. He served three churches in Mississippi. First Christian Church, Jackson, Cooper Road (Now Covenant) and Woodville. He retired from the active ministry in 1992 after an 11 year pastorate in Ada, OK. In Florida and Mississippi, he served as Moderator of the Christian Churches.

An avid traveler, he visited 48 of the 50 states; and several foreign countries and Europe, the Near East, Far East and the South Pacific.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandra Shelton Mills, daughter Linda Mills of Nashville, TN; Lori Mills Welch and grandson Camden Welch of Spring Hill, TN. Also, Sandra’s children David Franklin (Dawn) of Durham, NC, Larry Franklin of Jackson and Cindy Ross (Steve) of Plano, TX, and grandchildren Madeline and Nichols Ross.
