Pharis Elijah Cain, Jr, 77, a resident of Jackson, MS, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Southside Assembly of God in Jackson, Mississippi.
Pharis was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 5, 1940, to Pharis E Cain Sr and Ruth Lester Cain. He was their third child and only son. He was raised in Elm Grove, Louisiana. He graduated from Elm Grove High School in 1959. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.
During Pharis’ adult years, he transferred to Jackson, Mississippi and worked in the paper company business. He was employed by Graham Paper Company which later became Jim Walter Paper Company. He went on to create Cain Envelopes. After retiring from the paper business, he became a bus driver for Jackson Public Schools for a number of years.
Pharis had a love for sports and he coached many softball teams. While living in Jackson, he became a member of Southside Assembly of God, where he volunteered as a bus driver for Salvation Station for several years.
Pharis is preceded in death by his father Pharis E Cain Sr, and his mother Ruth Lester Cain, a sister Dorothy Cain Webb, a daughter Whitney Elise Cain, a step-son Brelon Dewayne Johnson, a granddaughter Brandy Nichole Cain and a great nephew Montrell Tyler.
Pharis is survived by his wife Pamela Pope Cain, son Timothy Cain, daughter Wendy Reed, step-son Trevor Dyon Johnson, a sister Mary Ruth Farney, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
